How a large-format gym chain grew organic blog clicks 67% and impressions 123% in six months, lifting its average Google position from 10.8 to 7.6 with genuinely useful fitness content.
Our client, a large-format gym chain, had a blog that was one of the most underleveraged assets in its digital footprint. Its audience asks constant, searchable questions about workouts, form, equipment and training, but the library wasn't built to answer them at the depth or consistency search rewards.
We rebuilt it as a resource library: refreshing existing posts against current search intent while new content filled coverage gaps, so accumulated authority was preserved rather than abandoned. Over six months the blog moved from averaging page two of Google to averaging page one.
Gym members ask practical, specific questions a gym brand is well positioned to answer. Competing on usefulness and presentation was a more realistic path than out-publishing the field.
We focused on workout, exercise and fitness tip content written to fully answer the question, not hit a word count, mostly in listicle format. Listicles match how people scan fitness content, picking the three moves they want, and their clearly delimited structure is exactly what featured snippets and AI answer engines extract most readily.
Every post was built with original media instead of stock: custom graphics, original photography and animated GIFs demonstrating individual exercises. A question about form is visual, and a three-second loop answers it better than any paragraph. Original media also earns image placements text-only competitors can't, and can't be copied by paraphrasing.
Content was optimized for traditional SEO and generative engines in the same pass. Clear headings, direct answers high in each section and consistently structured lists made posts legible to both ranking algorithms and the AI systems that increasingly answer fitness questions before anyone clicks.
Alongside fitness content, we published brand and amenity content for people deciding where to train. Calls to action sat within posts, not just at the end, and deliberate internal linking connected related posts and routed readers toward membership and location pages, spreading authority across the library.
Impressions grew nearly twice as fast as clicks, the expected pattern when a library expands into new coverage. The quality signal is position: up 3.2 places to 7.6, and independent third-party tracking shows steady month-over-month growth, not a single spike.
